The Burning Question

"Holidays"...what comes to mind?
Sparkling lights, the smell of pine, family, baked goods, paper cuts from
wrapping gifts, money...a paper bag to breathe into because
you're having to talk about money.....

The big question is....
Are you done shopping?

My answer no. I am not done making the gifts that I intend to give this year which explains my blogging absence. (Yup family members crap-I mean craft gifts. While others are truly blessed with the gift of crafting my skills remain to be seen.) That and I had a book club potluck last night. Annnnddddd, I waited until the last minute to read the book. Not because I'm a procrastinator (well maybe a little), but I wasn't going to go and decided at the last minute that I wanted to. Well, that's not true either....I was at a Christmas party last Friday and I was asked in front of a lot of people (you know right when the awkward silence happens in a crowded room) by a very nice book club member if I was going....put on the spot and my mouth could only form Yyyyessss? So, I'm not a procrastinator I'm indecisive and not good when put on the spot . (crooked smile)
(Side note: I had a great time!)

What about you?
See...now I'm putting you on the spot how do you like that? (Hee Hee)
That's the beauty of blogging you can pretend you never read this post and
go about your day. In a crowded room....not quite as easy.

I look forward to your answers....
Have a spectacular day!

The Burning Question

It's been a while since I've posted a question.

With the holidays here in full swing it seems only fitting to ask a few questions about them.

Do you have a lot of gifts to purchase this year?

Have you cut back in recent years?

Who is the hardest person to buy for?

Me: Actually, it doesn't feel like we have a lot of gifts to purchase. Even though I haven't been "Christmas" shopping yet I feel in control of the shopping that needs to be done. I am not planning to go to the mall unless I have to...

When I worked in retail it was too easy to buy things at "great prices". That was the problem, I would see a great price and add on to peoples gifts because of the price. It wasn't necessary, but I hate to pass up a great sale and I love giving presents.

The hardest person to buy for is usually my dad.

Your turn....
Have a wonderful day!

Tuesday: The Burning Question..on Monday just to shake things up.

Today's burning question is more like a fill in the blank.

My Grandma______________________________________________________.

Is 88 1/2 years old with the spirit of a woman half her age.

Tuesday: The Burning Question

Fill It In
(Make it a little dreamy or keep it real... it's your call.)

I like to fill my morning cup with_________while nibbling on__________.
(Of course there's no calories in that.)

It's then time to slip into my ______________and__________.

It's fall my favorite season, so I'm going to_____________ today. After that, I'm going to__________________ just because I can.

Me: I like to fill my morning cup with Starbucks amazing Decaf. Pumpkin Spice latte (skim milk no whip cream) while nibbling on their no calorie lemon pound cake.
It's then time to slip into my size 4 clothing and
one of many pair of Christian Louboutin shoes.
(It makes me laugh just thinking about how far from the truth that is...)
Classic
Classic Plus
Classic Plus+Plus
It's fall my favorite season, so I'm going to enjoy the beautiful sunny afternoon by horseback riding today. After that, I'm going to get a relaxing massage just because I can.

Your turn......

Tuesday: The Burning Question

Are you a coupon clipper?
Does the amount of the coupon entice you to get the product?
Will you switch products because of a good coupon?

Me: I am a coupon clipper.
I love to see the price go down as they put them
into the register at the grocery store. Cha-Ching

It's thrilling!

If I don't need the product I won't use the coupon to save money.
To me coupons are a great way to try something new/a different brand at a lower price.
If the product pales in comparison...at least I saved money.
There's nothing worse than trying
something new and it stinks, right.

Last question...
Do you have a blog you go to for coupon information? Do tell.

Tuesday: The Burning Question

If you could change your name... what would it be?

Me: I would like a name that whenever my mom said it,
it would make her remember a special place or thing she loves.
(Thankfully, my mom isn't a Unicorn lover.)

Was it difficult to name your children? Why did you choose the name(s)?

Your turn.

Tuesday: The Burning Question

What is the last thing you baked without using a box?
From scratch.

I enjoy baking, but I'm not great at it.
The last thing I made from scratch
...hum....
would have to be banana-walnut muffins.

What about you? Feel free to share your recipe.

Tuesday: The Burning Question

It's a fill in the blank...burning question kind of day.
Sometimes the first thing that comes to mind has a lot of truth behind it.
.........
I wish ____________________________________.
If I could I would _________________________ all day.
I love when _____________________________ .

Without over thinking it, here are my answers.
(I thought of "better" answers later on, but I wanted to go with my first thoughts. It's part of the fun.)

I wish for great health and happiness.

If I could I would ride horses all day.

I love when my husband walks out of his office (at home) in the middle of the
afternoon and pulls me close....to dance. (It happened today.)

Photo from our stay in the mobe...last Fall in Idaho while Mr. was doing research.

I'm looking forward to reading your answers....
Have a lovely day!

Tuesday: The Burning Question

It has been so hot and humid here...having to cook dinner seems like a cruel punishment. The only benefit I can find from roasting myself as I cook is the possible weight loss due to sweating.
If that didn't make you throw up in your mouth just a little you're one tough cookie. (Smile)

Today's question:
If you could go anywhere for dinner tonight...where would you go?
Why did you pick this restaurant? Do you have a favorite dish there?

Money is not an issue.

Me: I just finished talking to my mom about what she had for dinner last night. That got me thinking just how nice it would be to have a home cooked meal plus she has air conditioning. While I'm in town (I live 15 hours from my parents.) I would go to Rose's. It's a great restaurant on a lake that has really good fire roasted pizza and so many appetizers that I have a hard time choosing one. In the fall they have butternut squash soup and fresh bread that is to die for.

(Photos from our visit there last summer.)

It's your turn....where would you like to go for dinner tonight?

Tuesday: The Burning Question

I had a wonderful birthday! Thank you for all the kind greetings.
It's one of those feelings that are indescribable....people I've never "met", taking time out of their day to wish me a Happy Birthday. I'm still smiling today, but not too big I've got crows feet to worry about now that I'm almost 40. (Oh who cares...I'm still sporting a big toothy grin.)

So, a birthday related question seems fitting....
What is one of your favorite birthday memories?

(I'll answer in my next post.)

Tuesday: The Burning Question

You and I have a standing bloggy date...
here every Tuesday for a cup of coffee and a burning question that we both answer.

Are you ready?

With questions and comments still swirling in my head I hung up the phone. Happy for the time she had taken out of her day to talk with me, my busy sister with three kids, two cats and one very large dog talked with me for.....

Who would you like to talk to for 1 hour 39 minutes and 5 seconds?

*Oh the perks of being a teacher....have a wonderful summer Mrs. V. Love ya!*

The Burning Question...

Whether it's a warm sunny afternoon or blowing snow in the middle of November there's a perfect dinner for every occasion.

The burning question.....
What's your feel good dinner?

On a cold night you'll find my husband and I dancing around the kitchen prepping one of our favorite meals. Grilled cheese and tomato soup...ain't we's fancy. I love dipping my perfectly tanned wheat bread with a mixture of deli cheeses into a deliciously doctored tomato soup. By doctored I mean a dash of milk, red pepper flakes and whatever fresh herbs that are in the fridge. Although, we often find ourselves living in cold environments we can't always wait for the weather to participate...grilled cheese and tomato soup in July is yummy too.

What about you?

*If you want to add fun to your grilled cheese sandwich add a little mustard and/or use a mixture of deli cheeses with a little mayo, garlic salt and paprika.

The Burning Question...

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend.

Are you ready for the question?

What types of books do you like to read?
What book(s) are you reading right now?

I enjoy reading different types of books, but I usually have my nose buried in girlie books with a mix of drama, history, comedy, social and/or relationship issues. Recently, I joined a book club here in Quebec City. It is a group of 15 or so, who range from 30-85 in age. They are all Anglophones (English speaking)
which makes it nice for me.
This month we read The Birth House
by a Canadian author, Ami McKay.

First, let me tell you that I really enjoyed this book. I was immediately drawn to the main character, Dora Rare. As the first daughter born into the family after five generations you know right away that she is special. Others quickly realize the same thing in the small village of Scots Bay, Nova Scotia. Unfortunately, special doesn't always mean good. Shadowing the village midwife, Dora's hands not only catch the falling babies, but she is forced to juggles the future of Scots Bay.

Your turn!
