Crafty Auntie Annie

I honestly have no idea what is cool to a young teenager. When my nieces were here a couple weeks ago we went shopping. We were in this super cute store and they were ooohing and ahhhing over things I can make. I was putting skill above being frugal. Of course, then my skills were put to the test later that night.

Photo from the store
T-shirt my niece and I made.
A pillow my other niece and I made.
She got a little crafty on the back.

Let's just say, we were up late.  Some of us watching t.v. and another one sewing away because she opened her big crafty mouth. My sore aching eyes were completely worth it.  All in the name of love and those freckles and that beautiful strawberry blond hair.

What's the last thing you made?

A little craftiness

Saturday morning wrapped in a warm blanket with a cup of coffee. A clear agenda lays before me. My body relaxes and a smile lingers. I rest my head on the shoulder of the man I love.

I allowed the day to progress without a designated direction.

It turns out a few small craft idea surfaced.
Pearls and sparkles on my outlet cover.

Frame and cork board jewelry holder.
Pearl pins from my husband's grandma's sewing basket passed on to me.

Crafts

I'm about to start a love affair with Mod Podge Gloss
and maybe his cousin Matte.
I know, it sounds a little slutty doesn't it.

That's right, I'm going to work my craft magic. (Clearing of the throat...)
Let me rephrase that... I am going to attempt to make some simple craft items
over the next couple of days. It's snowing. work is slowing down
(nobody wants to learn English in December)and I've got the Christmas spirit.

Give me a C...give me a R....give me a A.... (snicker)

In a few weeks we are heading to our hometown and I really want to have a
craft day with my nieces. Last year at a friends house
I saw this fun card holder...
(she was in the process of moving...)
Thanks to The Shabby Chic Cottage
blog I was inspired to do this project.
Her middle name is Crafty (well it should be but I'm not really sure) , so don't compare please.

I did the same project with my own twist.

To make your own Christmas card holder you need:
clothespins
fun scrapbook paper
Mod Podge Gloss
some ribbon or string

Do you get a lot of Christmas cards?
I have received two...If you need my address just email me. (Smile)

Happy National Patriot's Day Canada!

There is nothing better than a holiday falling on a Monday. I love three day weekends. Today we are relaxing from a busy weekend going here and there. The sun draws me outside, but I'm just as happy looking out at the glorious day. My absence from blogging has me feeling behind yet o.k. with the decision.

Here is a little something I made yesterday...

A while back I saw something like this on another blog. (Check out Burlap and Blue...to see how cute it really can look.) I went to the dollar store and purchased the three canvas frames and purchased the three colors of craft paint. I went online and found silhouettes of birds. I can not draw, but with a little practicing on paper I drew the branches and birds. Less than $10.00 and now I have something on my naked wall. I'm thinking about painting the middle one by connecting the two with a branch. For now, I will keep it this way.

How was your weekend?

SewOnandOn

I saw this tutorial on the Rookie Moms blog and decided to try it using my husband's t-shirt.
I'm sure they will be too long for Cedar, but I'll fix that once he tries them on.
Speaking of Cedar and his mom...
Did I mention they are moving in less than a month? I can not believe it.
Therefore, I will ignore it until the last possible moment...
then cry my eyes out on the pillow I just made.

I found a fabric flower tutorial on Sew Ritzy~Titzy and
I made another apron...without a pattern.
Maybe an Etsy shop is in my future?

Flower Power

(Fuzzy photo...drats.)
Look at these cute pins I made. I am not taking credit for the creation.
I was at How About Orange a few days ago and found this post. She made hair clips. I made pins and used pearls for the middle. It was a fun Saturday craft project that cost $3.00.

Did you do anything crafty this weekend?

Rags to Rug...

My tootsies have found a new place to dwell. Last night, I finally finished my first "big" rug. Check it out. Just don't look too close there are a few, not so perfect spots.

I bought this fabric, but plan to start using old clothing and such.

Throwing needles and getting a loom....

Somewhere deep within the Boise National Forest, sat a girl twirling her thumbs. Gazing out the window she wished upon the first star of the night. Softly, the snow was falling to the ground. After a long sad sigh, she looks over at the dusty knitting needles that were aggressively placed on the shelf some days earlier. She turns slowly, wincing a bit, while eying the needle holes in the wall behind the couch. Just weeks ago, after hours of meditation and reading she was once again ready to knit one, purl two....surely she had no idea when she hurled them across the room they would actually stick into the wall.

Rest in peace aluminum hell sticks....

The magical moments of her desperate cries echoed across the land and into the sky. The tender wish whispered into the ears of the lady who holds R&R in the palm of her hands, Mother Crafter. Sister to Mother Nature, who was hard at work with global warming.

Seated by her sewing machine, saddened by this young, skinny (o.k. healthy and not that young) girls desire, a tear drop fell down...down....down to the poor craft less girl. Gently, a diaphanous glow filled the room. The feeling of despair was slowly, silently, then forcefully lifted. It was really stuck on her. Dashing a little more of her nurturing water and the goo of despair could no longer hold on. Screeching through the darkening sky the spiteful emotion set off in search of another woman with unused knitting needles or perhaps a blank white sheet of scrapbook paper.

Scratching at her ear and slowly shaking her head back and forth, she had that "what the ... just happened" feeling. Reached over and turned on some Christmas music a jolly feeling was flushing through her. "I really can't stay....Baby it's cold outside..." the Brian Setzer orchestra spilling the Christmas spirit into the quiet mobe. She paused in her festive tracks as the phone interrupted this truly special moment. "A loom.... a loom you say....maybe I could give it a try. Sure, I can be there in two shakes of a lamb's tail...". Turning to dash out the door, she looked in the mirror to see if somehow she turned into a 80 year old, internally asking herself why did she use such an elderly idiom. With no worries or despair she gleefully skipped down the road. (Bear spray, MP3 player, knife in hand... see this post to understand.)

I have to say the rest of the story is all rags to rugs....seriously RUGS. Oh, and a happy ever after. Nothing close to perfection, but what is perfection to the grateful eye. Night after obsessive night you can find the young, skinny girl (I know what your thinking, just let me pretend...) wrapping scraps of material around jute, humming to the music and silently thanking Mother Crafter and not screaming at Mother F'er any more. I heart my rag rug.

See...I really did it. (99% done)

Don't worry it's not one of my new craft creations...It's something from the eau de toilette queen herself, Estee Lauder.
